AI Clients

What happens when Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex connects to CompanyOS: what it can see, and the tools it gets.

Last verified: 2026-09-29

An AI Client is an assistant that connects to CompanyOS over an MCP Connection. One connection binds one AI Client to one Member and one Workspace. Each person connects with their own AI account.

Supported clients

CompanyOS is Claude-first.

  • Claude: the recommended path. Connect Claude.
  • ChatGPT and Codex: supported. Connect ChatGPT or Codex.
  • Other clients that support remote MCP servers with sign-in may work, but are not tested.

Grok is not a supported client. Provider plans change: Claude currently allows one custom connector on its Free plan, and ChatGPT reaches custom connectors through Developer mode. Check your own account.

What a connected client can see

A client sees exactly what the connecting Member can see:

  • every Company File in the Workspace;
  • that Member’s own Personal Files;
  • published Procedures and Templates, plus that Member’s own drafts;
  • the Apps connected for the Workspace, and the Member’s own Personal Connections.

It never sees another Member’s Personal Files, Personal drafts, or mailbox.

The tools

Every client gets the same tool catalog. The client’s tools/list is the authoritative list for a given Member and Workspace.

Tool What it does
search Searches visible knowledge. Returns ranked sources, a cited summary, matching Procedures and Templates, and the connections between sources.
fetch Reads one source in full, as parsed text.
list_files Lists visible files and folders with their processing state.
find_procedures, use_procedure Finds Procedures and reads one in full.
store_procedure Saves a Procedure as the Member’s Personal draft, or shares it for Owner approval.
find_templates, use_template, store_template The same, for Templates.
find_apps, call_app Lists the connected Apps and their operations, then calls one.

What a client can change

  • Your files: nothing. Source files and provider records are read-only to AI Clients. Uploads and deletes happen in the web app.
  • Procedures and Templates: drafts only. A client can save a Member’s Personal draft. It reaches the team only after an Owner approves it.
  • Apps: only the listed operations. For example, Microsoft 365 can create an email draft in Outlook. CompanyOS never sends email from Microsoft 365.

A client should never claim it did something without a successful result from the tool.

Usage records

CompanyOS records MCP usage per Member and Workspace: tool names, outcomes, timings, result counts, and search terms with common sensitive patterns removed. It does not record source contents, mailbox contents, or arbitrary tool arguments.
